Offseason Explanation
At the end of a season, there are four auctions and a Minor League Draft. Any owner who wants to drop a player through insurance must do so before the beginning of the Arbitration Auction.
Prior to the start of the auctions, each owner is granted by the League to make one "Keeper Exemption" to a player who would otherwise become a free agent, by paying that player the previous year's salary +$5 the first year and +$5 for a second year. The Keeper Exemption is for a maximum of two years.
Players with no Major League plate appearances or innings pitched are ineligible for the five Auctions, except for MLB rookies from Japan and Cuba.
All contracts won in the following auctions are GUARANTEED:
-Keeper exemptions-
The first KE works exactly like the old one (salary + $5 per year)
The second is a (+$5 per year, 4 year deal Guaranteed no insurance). This means if you cannot release this player. The only way to get out of this contract is to trade that player.
example:
If I have
David Ortiz ($30) and Mariano Rivera ($30)
1st KE: David Ortiz 1 of 2 ($35) year 2 of 2 ($40)(can add insurance if so desired)
2nd KE: Mariano Rivera 1 of 4 ($35) 2 of 4 ($40) 3 of 4 ($45) 4 of 4 ($50) (no insurance)
So if you drop Rivera in year 2 you would be on the hook for year 3 ($45) and year 4 ($50) in those years
*The only way out of these contracts is player retirement
*4 year KE ARE NOT release waiver eligible
-Arbitration Auction-
At the end of the season, each owner will select one player who would be eligible for the Regular Auction and offer them Arbitration. Each owner submits to the Commish that player's name, and what they deem to be a fair value offer.
An auction then takes place on the players offered Arbitration.
If the winning auction bid is less than your submitted amount to the Commissioner, that player is yours for the amount of the winning auction bid.
If the winning auction bid matches your submitted amount, you have the option of keeping that player, or allowing him to go to the winning bidder.
If your submitted amount is less than the winning auction bid, you have to option of paying the winning bid +$2 in order to keep that player.
Any players won or matched in the Arbitration Auction are assigned one year contracts.
You may offer arbitration to a player up to 3 times.
-Right to Match Auction-
Any player you have claimed off waivers in the prior season, and who finished the year with your team on either the AR or DL will be auctioned here, with the owner who claimed that player having the right to match the highest bid.
The other type of player who comes with the right to match is a one who has come from your minor league system, and who have spent a full five years on your team with their minor league contract. In this case, if the owner decides not to match, he will be rewarded the following compensation:
For players whose winning bid was over $20- the initial owner will receive a supplemental pick between the first and second round of either the current or next offseason's minor league draft.
For players whose winning bid was between $10-$19 the initial owner will receive a supplemental draft pick between the second and third round of either the current or next offseason's minor league draft.
For players whose winning bid was less than $10, the initial owner will receive a supplemental draft pick after the third round of either the current or next offseason's minor league draft.
Also note: The order of the supplemental round will be determined based on the salaries that these players are awarded, with the highest dollar value garnering the highest supplemental pick. Should there be a case of two players receiving the same amount, we will use last year's standing as the basis for the order of picks, with the team who finished higher in the standings getting the later pick.
Final note: If a player has failed to receive a bid in the Right-to-Match auction, the original owner will get the option of signing a $1 guaranteed or $2 non-guaranteed 1 year contract.
-Regular Auction-
Players whose contracts have expired, who were not designated as a keeper exemption, offered arbitration, and didn't have rights to match.
Managers must request players to MSP for auction posting.
Note: Any contract won in this auction is guaranteed. When your 28 man roster is full, you will not be able to bid on players.
-Minor League Draft-
The final phase of the offseason is the minor league draft, which will consist of three rounds. Each team will be granted one pick per round, and this may be altered by special order of the Commissioner.
First overall pick will be the last place team and decend from there, the last pick of each round of the draft will be granted to the winner of the league's Championship.
Teams can cash-in 3 prospects for a Supplemental Third Round pick (first available), and 5 prospects for a Supplemental Second Round pick (first available). Cashing-in prospects are prohibited during a Minor League Draft.
-Minor League Contracts-
-While a player is on your minor league roster, he will cost you zero dollars. As soon as you promote him, he is signed to a $2 contract. That contract will increase by $2 every year for the first 5 years he is on your roster.
International player signed to a major league contract are not eligible for the minor league draft.
Minor league options
options are for those players that are still fall under the prospect status (130 AB or 50 IP in the major leagues).
There will be a separate thread for these transactions and you will get 3 options while the player still has prospect status and their options will be noted on your roster page.
YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY THEIR SALARY EVEN IF YOU SEND THEM BACK DOWN. ($2 first year contract)
example of what this would look like on your roster page:
Sixto Sanchez $2 (1 0f 5 MLC; options left 3)
the options are tradeable but will not be reset to 3 if traded, if there is only one option left, that is all that may be traded.
When the prospect status is gone you may not send the prospect down anymore.
There will be a separate thread for promoting and sending down prospects if you send down a prospect you MUST post how many AB's or IP that player has so we can track the player.
Example:
Sending down Sixto Sanchez using option #1
Sixto Sanchez $2 (1 0f 5 MLC; options left 2) 39 IP
Once he passes 50 IP he will not be able to be sent down anymore.
(amended 10/15/21)
-SALARY CAP VIOLATIONS-
-Any owner operating in debt will not be
eligible for postseason play.
-Any owner operating in debt will immediately lose their next first round pick.
The only exception to this rule is if another owner is willing to sponsor your debt for any reason.
